Accessibility at HoursServed
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Our commitment
HoursServed is built for service clubs, and service is for everyone. We believe the people who give their time to their communities should be able to record and report that service themselves, independently, whatever tools they use to access the web. We are working to make HoursServed usable for people who are blind or have low vision, who navigate by keyboard, and who use screen readers or refreshable braille displays.
The standard we are working toward
We are building HoursServed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, Level AA, the internationally recognized benchmark for accessible websites and applications. We want to be clear and honest that this is work in progress, not a finished claim of full conformance. We are improving the product steadily and testing it with people who rely on assistive technology.
What we are doing
We are focusing first on the tasks that matter most: signing in, logging service hours, and viewing and submitting reports. Across the product we are working to provide:
- Text descriptions for images and icons, so nothing depends on seeing a graphic
- Clearly labeled forms and fields
- Full keyboard operation, so nothing requires a mouse
- A logical heading structure so you can navigate and orient quickly
- Testing with assistive technology. HoursServed has been tested with NVDA, and an external tester confirmed clear, precise braille output on links using a BrailleSense Mini refreshable braille display.
- Clear announcements when something is saved, submitted, or returns an error
Known limitations
We are early in this work, and some parts of HoursServed are not yet fully accessible. We are addressing them in order of importance. If you encounter a barrier, telling us about it directly helps us fix the right things first.
- We have not tested HoursServed with JAWS. We cannot confirm how the platform behaves with it.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of HoursServed is difficult or impossible for you to use, please contact us. We read every message and we will work with you.
